Walking off your lunch?A Guide to Coastal Walks in St Brelade

A couple stroll along the causeway from Corbiere Lighthouse

Jersey is made for exploring on foot. Make the most of your time in St Brelade with a stroll along the seafront or a hike along the headland.

With dramatic cliffs, sandy bays, rocky headlands and views across the Channel, Jersey is made for exploring on foot.

The western coastline offers walks for every kind of day out, from gentle strolls along the beach to more challenging routes around the cliffs.

And with Oyster Box overlooking St Brelade’s Bay, there’s an ideal place to stop for lunch, dinner or a drink along the way.

St Brelade’s Bay

For an easy introduction to Jersey’s coastline, start close to home.

St Brelade’s Bay is one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, with a broad stretch of sand backed by the promenade and surrounded by rocky coastline.

A walk around the bay can easily be combined with a visit to St Brelade’s Church and the Fisherman’s Chapel, before continuing towards Ouaisné.

It’s a particularly enjoyable route when the tide is out and more of the beach and shoreline are revealed.

And, conveniently, you can finish your walk with lunch or dinner overlooking the bay at Oyster Box.

Ouaisné and Portelet

From St Brelade’s, the coastline towards Ouaisné becomes more rugged.

The route offers views across the surrounding bays and towards the offshore landscape, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the scenery.

Continue further towards Portelet for a more adventurous coastal walk, with steep sections and beautiful views along the way.

This is a walk to take your time over, with sensible footwear and plenty of water.

La Corbière

At Jersey’s south-western tip, La Corbière is one of the island’s most recognisable coastal landmarks.

The famous lighthouse stands offshore and is connected to the mainland by a causeway that is exposed at low tide.

The surrounding coastal paths offer spectacular views and a real sense of Jersey’s exposed position in the Channel.

If you’re exploring the area, always check the tide times before approaching the causeway. The sea can return quickly, and the causeway is not accessible at all states of the tide.

Beauport

For something a little quieter, head to Beauport on Jersey’s south-west coast.

The small sandy beach is tucked beneath steep cliffs, creating one of the island’s more secluded coastal settings.

The surrounding paths offer beautiful views across the bay and countryside, and it’s a good choice if you want to get away from some of the busier stretches of coastline.

Make a day of it

One of the pleasures of walking in Jersey is how easy it is to combine a coastal route with good food.

You can spend the morning exploring the coastline, stop for lunch and then continue your walk afterwards – or finish the day with dinner and a drink overlooking the sea.

At Oyster Box, we’re lucky to have one of Jersey’s most beautiful stretches of coastline right outside our doors.

So put on your walking shoes, check the tide times and set off to discover the island on foot.

Just remember to leave enough time for a well-earned meal by the sea.
